David’s review published on Letterboxd:
Birds of prey is directed by Cathy Yan and was released in 2020. The movie stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, the story is all about the affects of Harley’s split with The Joker and how her past mischiefs has made people feel about her. After people find out about her split, she is then a target by many many people. Some of them being Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnne Smollett), and Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).
The villains in the movie are not great or not memorable, they don’t really have any back story. However Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is good, she gives some good energy and personality to the character. This movie definitely feels like a comic book movie, similar to kick ass in that way, however there is nothing that really stands out in the movie, the action is okay, and the script is okay. There is some comedic scenes however some of it falls abit short too, as it is almost trying too hard to be a comedy. I did like the visuals and the effects that were used it made the movie different from the other DCEU movies that have come before it however it wasn’t a great movie in my opinion.
Overall I’d rate this movie a 2 and a 1/2 ⭐️ this movie was disappointing as I was expecting abit more from the movie, it has little bits of action and comedy but it is all abit average.
