I was a drummer for a while and I am glad I never had a teacher as rough as J.K Simmons was. It's a great film about the struggle for perfection from both the student and teacher. I felt Miles Teller's character and his struggle, but also intimidated by J.K's character and his method of teaching. I imagine it must be extremely difficult to perform the Jazz music the teacher is looking for, its faster than any Jazz song I played. It's a really good film, just not for those who hate being reprimanded by their teachers as if they committed several felonies.
There is also no way Miles could have ducked in time when the teacher threw the chair at him, he would have been dead or the very least knocked out.
