A PG-13 horror that was allowed to go all out in the limits of their rating really surprised me. There were scenes in this film that I thought could have given this film a soft R rating. The problem is that it's built like it's going to become a franchise. In fact its was probably writing the sequel while the first one was made. It's far from perfect, but I will give it credit it went the extra mile with what they could or couldn't show in a horror story that's meant for a younger audience.
I will admit: for someone who has never read the original books before, these were some of the scariest and imaginative creatures I have ever seen.
