Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Portrait of a Lady on Fire ★★★★★

Ah take me back to the year 2019...it's absolutely insane on how three of the films in my top 4 favorite films of all-time come from that year alone, it truly was a perfect year...just like this film (this is now my second favorite film of all-time). This film is directed by Céline Sciamma and stars Noémie Merlant,Adéle Haenel,Luana Bajrami and Valeria Golino in this film...listen, I consider film as a whole...art...but this film is just pure art in it's most perfect form. Yes, I consider this film perfect. This slow-burn love story feels very patiently crafted...everything matters in this film...no matter how slow one might say the pacing is...there's no doubt that the film still has so much that it's giving through the experience of watching this...it's unreal. The direction of the film and overall tone is layed out through an absolutely perfect score that makes sure you feel EVERY emotion while watching this. This story is just written beautifully and I just had my eyes glued to the screen throughout the film...even to the point where I was completely immersed in the experience. Cinematography was perfect, it's a key factor in how the story is told and it's just beautiful to look at. Each performance was also perfect...especially from our two leads. From us watching Marianne (Noémie Merlant) study and eventually get to know Helöise (Adéle Haenal) was just a beautiful thing to watch and see unravel. There's so many emotions packed into this and...it's hard to keep up...it's a slow paced film but has a lot being thrown at you at the same time. The final scene...might be my new favorite "final scene" in any film that I've ever watched...truly BREATHTAKING. This is film/storytelling at it's finest and since this is on Hulu now I'm begging you to watch this...it truly is a masterpiece and even if you may not think so...you have to agree that it's crafted like one.

Highly Recommended.
