Seven Samurai

Seven Samurai ★★★★★

When a film has a reputation as ridiculously high as Seven Samurai, it's hard to expect something other than a masterpiece. Typically, Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai did prove to be exactly that, an unconditional near-perfect masterpiece that although runs for 207 minutes (There was a bizarre short intermission in the middle of it however) never once bored me.

It features Kurosawa regulars Takashi Shimura and Toshirô Mifune as two of the seven and naturally both are superb (All of them were superb in fairness, but for economy reasons I won't list them all). Actually everything about Seven Samurai is superb, the direction from Kurosawa, the acting, the editing, the lighting, the soundtrack... even the way Kurosawa uses the weather. I won't carry on too much, since whatever I say will have already been said.

It simply is a masterpiece.
