I will preface this by admitting that I am a large Original Trilogy Star Wars fan and an avid Lord of the Rings/Hobbit watcher. That said, I had neither seen the 1984 version nor had I read any of the books. Villeneuve won me over, as was expected. Casting was excellent. Visuals were top tier. It won’t win Best Picture, but I wouldn’t be upset if it did. Watch it as big and as loud as you can! (Seen in a theater.)

My immediate reaction leaving the theater was a big eye roll. Maybe it’s because I loathe Thomasin Mackenzie? However I understand why she played the part she did. I’m not a big Horror Movie fan in general, so maybe don’t listen to me for advice/thoughts in this particular case. (Seen in a theater.)

I don’t think I was the target audience for this. It felt longer than “Drive My Car”. Definitely 30 mins too long. Without spoiling, there was at least one sequence that was shot interestingly. Despite my opinion, I’m glad it was made and put on the big screen. (Seen in a theater.)

You can feel the excitement Soderbergh had to try out all sorts of different shots and sequences in this. I’m sure he took inspiration from his 2021 Seen/Read Diary. There’s enough story for the average filmgoer, but cinephiles will probably enjoy the technique more so than anything else.
