Bullet Train

Bullet Train ★★★½

Not as stylish nor as consistent in tone as Leitch's best films (ATOMIC BLONDE 4EVA), but it makes up for it by delivering equally on both parts of the action-comedy genre and having some creative, fun fight scenes. That said, it's the cast that really sells this, from Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry's odd-couple energy as a pair of assassin "twins" to Joey King's innocently malicious little-girl put-on, to some HILARIOUS surprise cameos. The chemistry just crackles throughout, giving oddball "where is this going next?" energy. At the center of it all, Brad Pitt is fully coasting on his nonchalant movie star charisma, selling this thing for all its worth even when the tone falters (which it does especially in the first act). It's a blast, and I wish more action films had the courage to be as original in concept (if not quite execution) as this.
