Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo ★★★★★

"Is this my fault?"

Evangelion: 3.33 You Can (not) Redo is a lot things. I think mostly it's a meta commentary on the reception to the entire Evangelion franchise and it's fans, and it says a lot in very clever and even angry ways. There's a lot to unpack with this movie so I'm just going to skip over the meta narrative and only briefly touch on what this move is doing thematically with it's characters.

This movie more than anything is about consequence. It's a movie about making mistakes. Despite the large scale of the Evangelion story it matches up to stuff that happens in real life everyday. In real life the fate of all humanity isn’t at stake like in Evangelion, but sometimes it can feel that way. Sometimes people fuck up, and this movie about the consequences of those kind of mistakes. Did I have good intentions? Did I do it for myself? Are the people I love going to be okay? Can I fix my mistakes? Am I going to be okay? Do I deserve to be okay?

This movie doesn't give you the answers. All it can do is give you the cold and dark reality:
You Can Not Redo
