Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home ★★★½

Well consider me shocked, No Way Home is really, really good. Even great in some aspects.

Thematically speaking, this is the strongest out of the three, which is one thing I absolutely didn’t expect. It incorporates the “with great power comes great responsibility” message into the multiverse plotline surprisingly well, alongside other strong themes that I don’t want to delve into right now due to spoilers that feel like they get a good amount of focus on.

This is also easily the best Peter Parker of the trilogy. It understands who I believe Peter Parker is; someone who’s caring and nice yet at times selfish and full of himself, which is portrayed here mostly well but his caring side went a little too far for a good portion in the middle, to the point of naivety, although I won’t mention why due to spoilers as well.

Not all the villains get equal focus but they’re utilized well with both fun banter and even emotional depth, especially the Green Goblin. I wished we got more of their backstories but then again the movie might feel too bloated so I guess that’s sorta understandable. I also surprisingly liked a lot of the callbacks to the Raimi and Webb films, even as someone who hasn’t even seen those, with the exception of the first one. (I’ll get to them eventually don’t worry)

As for non-spoilery issues, at times the editing can feel too fast and the final action scene can feel like it’s too much as well.

Aside from all that, I really enjoyed it. A masterpiece? No. I wouldn’t even call it all that great, but this is still both a fun time and a step in the right direction for this version of Peter Parker. I would say to go watch it but let’s be honest, you probably already have. Really enjoyed it overall.

My parents however, not so much. They were very vocal about their distaste towards it lol.

(btw if you’re wondering why my writing looks worse than usual it’s because I wanted to publish this review before New Years and I had a few other things to do so I wasn’t able to put my full attention and effort onto this, sorry)

Edit: Forgot to say, Happy New Year everyone! Let’s hope 2022 is better. (Also this is the fastest I’ve ever gotten 4 likes for a review so thank you to that :))
