This is the film that really brought back RDJ and I’ll fight anyone who disagrees with me on this.
This is a great investigation thriller first and foremost but it’s also a film about obsession. The killer ultimately wins not just because he wasn’t imprisoned, but because anyone who was heavily involved in the case was irreparably damaged in some way or another i.e. Avery living in constant fear for his life leading to drug and alcohol abuse which ruined his life or Graysmith losing his family due to his unhealthy obsession with the case.
