i had this recommended by the pharmacist who gave me my new covid vaccine. when i heard that it had negligible dialogue, i was a bit skeptical that it would be gimmicky but i actually think it works fine here, propped up by kaitlyn dever's delightful face-acting. at times it felt like it was going in a little too much on the Trauma angle, but other parts were fun enough that i'm willing to forgive it.
toes the line of in/sincerity remarkably well in high-heeled shoes. frankly i wouldn’t want this goofy toy ad movie to be much deeper or more radical than it is. it goes right where it needs to and no further. some very good jokes and perfect production design. busby berkeley ken dance sequence is a highlight.
more movies should have a color scheme for people to dress up in when they go to see it
absolutely gorgeous from top to bottom, and chock full of charming visual gags and motifs, but the story is all over the place for no good reason and the dialogue goes far beyond quippy and into the territory of self-reference for its own sake. i know meta humor is part of the multiverse Thing but it doesn’t all have to be memes and in-jokes. not once but twice we have to watch live-action donald glover shrug indifferently and that’s it.…
