    Rebels of the Neon God

A cram school dropout. A pair of petty thieves. A carefree young woman. All drifting through the bustling bright darkness of Taipei. Arcades. Roller Rinks. Night Markets. Lost and found. Together, but not quite. Endless swarming traffic connected via a lifeblood of taxis and scooters. Refuge comes in the form of stained rooms, where kids can briefly reveal themselves before hiding once more in the apocalyptic adult uproar.

This was the gritty kind of Asia I grew up with. Every…

    Happy Old Year

Thai film about a woman decluttering junk and realizing that a lot of it comes attached with unresolved memories from all those that once occupied her world.
Refreshing her life takes an unexpected, exhausting emotional toll that she's forced to deal with, before she can completely disgard everything and move on.

I think a lot of us can relate when we're clearing out stuff we haven't seen in ages; handling each long forgotten item sends a flood of buried memories…

When getting sand in the crack is the least of your problems

Now, I know a lot of people are making unfair comparisons these days, so let's just get this out of the way; John Wick was the better movie. Funuke Show Some Love, You Losers!

Domestic chaos in a picturesque countryside

Opens with the death of parents who swerve to avoid a cat. Immediately switches to the dysfunctional family they left behind.

The story is littered with all forms of abuse; from the subtle passive aggressive to openly verbal and even downright torturous. With Sumika failing to make it as an actress in Tokyo, she takes all of her frustration out on Kiyomi, whom she blames for creating a manga that humiliated her.

    Absolutely dug…

James Wan's Kick-Ass Cancer Awareness film

So, in between beefcake action blockbusters, Wan reels it on back to old school horror... with action blockbuster elements. Appreciate that he ditched the PG-13 baby seat and let loose, though it almost felt like this may have benefited from a less mainstream budget and more forced indie creativity.

Still, entertaining overall with all of his signature sauce splattered throughout; easily something that could withstand more than a few repeat viewings.
