aliyah’s review published on Letterboxd:
um. hi. so i watched this last night and it’s taken me however many hours to finally write this review.
if the oscars want any praise from me this season, they will give this film all the awards it deserves. i don’t need to tell you that the performances by this cast were absolutely stellar but i’m going to. i’m first going to give praise to dominique fishback and dominique thorne. fishback portrayed every emotion perfectly, that last shot of her...god she was a star in this truly. and thorne. i have no words, everytime she was on the screen my eyes were on her. now, lets talk about my boysss daniel kaluuya and lakeith stanfield. daniel that oscar is yours baby!!! his performance when he was giving his speech after he got out of prison could not have been done better. that was a perfect performance if i’ve ever seen one. and lakeith gets better and better everytime i see him. he’s just like thorne, everytime he was on the screen my eyes were drawn to him. they could not have done any better. what a perfect cast!!!
i went in honestly not knowing a ton about fred hampton and i left needing to learn more about him. this was a start for me and won’t be an ending. i’ve seen so many people say this while reviewing this film but continue doing research!!! dont leave it to just this, you can’t learn about an entire person and their beliefs in just a biopic.
also i think this is a must have detail, PLEASE DONATE TO SAVE THE HAMPTON HOUSE!
