Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ★★★★½

For the past few days I’ve had the urge to revisit this and knew it was sitting their on Netflix just waiting for me.   Tonight was the night for no good reason other than I wanted some comfort food with old friends.

I remember seeing this in the theater and how the opening sequence glued me to my seat and the film never let up.  The bug crypt sequence triggered my insectphobia big time and the tension was relentless.  I was just old enough to be both annoyed and turned on by Kate Capshaw.  I loved short round.  But most of all I loved Harrison ford and my favorite all time movie character, Indiana Jones.

Watching it tonight I was amazed by the pacing and how truly relentless the movie is.  Working almost like a silent film with set pieces after set piece.  Even after all these years it just worked for me.   Yeah, I know it’s not as good as Raiders or probably even Last Crusade but this is blockbuster action adventure filmmaking of the highest order and they don’t make them like this these days and I sure wish they still did.

Anything goes indeed.
