James Parker’s review published on Letterboxd:
As a somewhat functional adult who is completely unable to relate to or talk to children, I felt very seen by Gemma. If someone gave me a child to raise, I'd probably try to pawn them off on a robot as well.
Anyway, I thought this was supremely silly and campy but ultimately really fun. The best bits are in the trailer but unlike a movie where that spoils the fun this did a good job of setting expectations for tone imo. I went in knowing it was dumb and that made the dumb go down so much better.
The girls playing Megan fucking killed it, that was an infinitely watchable and entertaining character. It was essentially the plot of the Child's Play remake through a slightly different lens but frankly, I enjoyed that for what it was and found plenty new to enjoy here. this one nailed it and I'm glad I started the year with it.
