Scream (or 5cream as it should be called) dunks on the concept of unwanted reboots. It also calls out the toxicity in fandoms and those idjits who use the term "elevated horror" unironically although it does not dig the knife in as much as it should. The kills are nasty and the meta moments are mostly well-done. However, it has a bit too much melodrama for my taste and the new characters are not nearly as engaging as the ones in the earlier sequels. Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox are mostly underused till the very end. David Arquette is really good and has a surprisingly meaty role as opposed to being the comic relief. Of the newcomers, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid fare the best.
On the whole, Scream 2022 does not really do anything to move the original classic from its lofty perch but it is a fun little sequel which can stand on its own feet in the franchise.
