Shutter Island

Shutter Island ★★★★

Deliciously creepy, mysterious and twisty. The setting is a big old mental institution on an isolated weather beaten island for this noir/gothic/horror/psychological mystery thriller. I was too wrapped up in the plot to remember for sure but I think the entire film is from the perspective of our hero Teddy (Leonardo DiCaprio), leaving the viewer at the complete mercy of Scorsese to screw with our heads. The final part went on a bit too long but I actually didn’t mind, it was holding me firmly.

Classical and modern classical music is used instead of a score and is perfect. It only draws attention to itself at exactly the right moments.

I’m probably not the only person to notice some similarities to Inception?
