i think it's really interesting how michael mann's most epic and romantically courageous work is also his shortest and most economical.
as much as with lucas' star wars prequels, this is a film that both perfectly resonates with and politically complicates an adolescent emotional framework. not really a spiritual text, but a gendered fairy-tale. masculine and feminine energies struggling to exist & express themselves under imperialism.
