    Just Cause

    ★★

It starts off promising but completely bungles it’s thematic potential in the second half. What presents itself as a thriller with meaningful implications towards racial justice devolves into the antithesis of the points it sets out to make. The cast is brilliant and makes this mess watchable at the very least.

Bonus Points: This makes two of Indy’s girlfriends that Sean Connery has slept with.

    Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

    ★★½

They got Sean Connery AND the voice of Jimmy Neutron’s Jet Fusion??

The best part of this movie was realizing that Disney marketed their home videos off of this score for a decade.

It’s dark, drove, and an uninspiring take on what is usually a vibrant and theatrical character. Errol Flynn did it better in 1938 and Mel Brooks mockingly did it better in 93.

The performances are hardly ever in sync tonally and Costner’s Midwestern accent sticks out like a sore thumb. I like Rickman as the Sheriff but this movie really needed a Prince John to round itself out and foil him.

    ★★★½

This film is weird and it isn't afraid to be so, nor is it afraid to be awkward. Horse Girl prods at our inability to cope and our even greater inability to empathize beyond anyone but ourselves.

The back half of the Indy quadrilogy makes for perfect Father’s Day fare. The 4K transfer really pops the contrast in the Grail Temple and damn does it look better than ever.

I also like how fluid Spielberg and Slocombe’s blocking is in this movie, again with the Grail Temple scenes in particular. Camera and actors move in really dynamic sync that constantly stacks and re-stacks the staging during the juiciest dialogue bits.
