Amy whispers “Thank You” to Jo, and at the surface it feels like she saying thank you for not making a scene. Thank you for not mocking this, the latest life choice I’ve made you don’t agree with. But it goes so far beyond that. Amy is thanking Jo because she KNOWS even then, if Jo wanted, she could make Laurie leave her. Amy’s marriage is only due to Jo’s passive allowance.
Idk that’s some good screenwriting there.
