Drew’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Woman King was an epic action story that presented a historically unrepresented perspective (in the media I consume, at least) of African states in the 1800s and their relationship to the Atlantic slave trade.
Viola Davis was far and away the highlight of the picture. She’s so intense, gives so little away, while presenting a genuinely deep emotional character.
Some of the action didn’t work well for me, but I was watching on my laptop on the bus. I really regret not seeing this in theaters. It’s clear how much more I would’ve enjoyed it.
