Why I rewatched this one? This was my third time watching this movie...but my first in many years.
What is this one about? A man (Steve McQueen) befriends a fellow criminal (Dustin Hoffman) as the two of them begin serving their sentence on a dreadful prison island, which inspires the man to plot his escape.
My thoughts on this one? I have seen most of McQueen's movies more than once. At this point I strongly belief this to be the best performance McQueen ever gave. This is an Oscar worthy performance. Hoffman is equally impressive in the movie....though his part is secondary to McQueen. There is an opening scene that shows prisoners walking through a town....it is visually stunning....and gets the movie off to a fast start. Movie is gritty, dirty, depressing but in the end uplifting. A movie worth either seeing for the first time...or a repeat viewing.
