Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages

Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages ★★★★½

What a way to start off the challenge! Intolerance is a masterpiece of the silent film era. This could be considered the originator of the anthology film. What D.W. Griffith did with this film was so ahead of its time. The set design, especially in the Babylonian Empire section, puts most new movies' set design to shame. It looks incredible. The musical score makes this epic feel grand. And I love how the cradle represents the change of eras. This might move up to a 5 overtime, but I will mention a nitpick I have. I love all 4 sections, but I wish that the film focused a bit more on the Biblical "Judean" story in where intolerance lead to the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. I'm a Christian so I wish the film had a bit more of that section, but for the time we get it, it's just as amazing as the rest of this masterpiece. Also, the themes of intolerance and how it leads to destruction is so smart. This is a silent film, and it's never hard to follow. The theme works expertly. This film is wonderful and I'm so glad I picked this for my challenge. One of the best film epics of all time!
