Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield are truly two juggernauts of the acting game. I have followed Kaluuya's career ever since his small role in one of my favorite TV shows, the British coming of age series Skins. The same goes for Stanfield since Atlanta.

Kaluuya's portrayal of Hampton reminds me a lot of his character in the Fifteen Million Merits episode of Black Mirror. Bing Madsen holding the shard to his neck preaching about injustice is very Fred Hampton, except now Kaluuya is a much more polished actor. He totally deserves the Oscar, although why is it only a Best Supporting award? And same with Stanfield's nomination? Are they not the stars of the film?

Judas and the Black Messiah is one of the more memorable biopics of recent years and absolutely lives up to the hype. The acting is phenomenal and the storytelling is crisp. The REAL supporting actors—Jesse Plemons, Lil Rel Howery, and Martin Sheen the standouts, are the cherries on top. Sheen is absolutely disgusting as a racist, elderly J Edgar Hoover. Check this out if you haven't already!
