First Cow

Teared up when Evie the Cow made her first appearance on screen. She is beauty. She is grace. She helps make the best oily cakes. πŸ₯Ίβœ¨πŸ’ž

Reichardt continues her track record for creating beautiful films centered around the simplicity of existence. Her portrayal of the PNW on film is exceptional and brings to light just how lucky I (as a PNWer) am to live where I do. I often find myself turned off by Westerns, mostly because I’m just so tired of watching men massacre each other in the name of masculinity and bravado. First Cow is a breath of fresh air to the genre, creating a space for the tenderness, empathy, and vulnerability of men to grow and thrive. A perfect addition to an already incredible filmography for Reichardt. The elements of filmmaking that she excels in are at their finest within First Cow.Β

After the cancellation of First Cow’s theatrical release followed by a, what I personally thought was rushed, release to VOD, it felt almost like a disservice to be watching Reichardt’s latest at home instead of in theaters. I’m really thankful I got to finally see this work of art at long last though. A film I’ve been eagerly awaiting for months proved to be a complete treat to watch. I highly recommend giving it your time!Β

I also would like to think this film is hella anti-capitalism and for that, we stan miss reichardt even more than before!!!
