I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion or not but this is better than the first one. Even though this wasn’t a planned sequel from the start, it feels like an absolutely calculated “finale” to Michael’s character. The complete deconstruction and deterioration of a character as shown in this movie is so hard to watch, especially when contrasted with these heartfelt, family oriented flashback scenes. Similar to a film like There Will Be Blood, by the end it leaves you with a feeling of emptiness; questioning the point of all of the main character’s choices up to that point. I know there’s a third film, but from what I’ve heard, I’m happy to keep this as my ending for the series.
