Caleb John Cushing’s review published on Letterboxd:
Rating a youtube video (even a feature length film) feels kind of strange, and also I have no idea how I would ascribe a numerical value to something so raw and personal and vulnerable.
I will say I absolutely loved this and think it might be one of the best independent films I have ever seen. Joel Haver is incredibly creative and prolific. It takes a generous performer to bare their soul to this degree. A true artist.
Any criticisms I have are more than canceled out by what Haver was able to achieve with (what I assume is) an extremely limited budget. Some of these shots! These colors! The framing!
Loved all of the actresses. It's a very interesting time in our culture to create a film that centers on a man's loneliness and then use his relationship with women to find emotional catharsis and clarity. Some people might have issues with that, but I don't think there's anything slimy or disingenuous in the way Haver presents his piece. Worth mentioning though so people who would take umbrage don't feel blindsided going in.
Really strongly recommend this one. You can watch it on youtube for free, so set aside the 90 minutes and get the tissues ready!
