Garish, Unpleasant &/or Heavy-Handed Movies: A Worthy 21st Century Approach (no matter the results)

Garish, Heavy-Handed, &/or Unpleasant movies that received both a. controversially divisive or outright vilified reputation *upon release* & b. knowingly (& sometimes unknowingly!) weaponized the very obviousness people complained about for something more distinct, particular, and rooted in form then they were given credit for.
