Death Note

Death Note ½

You ever meet those people who look at the original Death Note (2007) anime and say that it just looks like edgy garbage? Death Note (2017) is the visual translation of single-minded views at the original source material. Not only does it not understand that said material, but even when looking at it based on its own merits, not a single thing about this film works. The only good thing I can honestly say about it is that they had the balls to make it, which I guess in a way can be seen as a positive. Not even William Dafoe's portrayal of Ryuk can save such an incomprehensible screenplay, nor can it save all of the blatantly terrible things they throw at this movie. Just flat out embarrassing, but you already knew that.
