Lucky Three 1997
Endearing as ever. A bittersweet look at the late, great Elliott Smith and his deeply melancholic tunes, simply put. Smith’s writing and overall delivery has always struck me as a silent letter of acknowledgment to bruised suburbia. Lucky Three heightens this by presenting bleak, wistful footage of nameless east coast towns. Cold, though oddly comforting. Similar to a memory of a forgotten road trip, continuously peering out the window. Telephone lines, 1970 Buick Wagon’s, diners, sleet, novelty shops, and old…

The Ravishing of Frank N. Stein 1982
Limping deep into the abysm of Frankensteins being. Reminiscent of M.C. Escher’s paintings. A boundless confusion that even tricks itself. Departing from tangible ideals and wandering back to the blank page. Though before you know it you’re back in those laurel green corridors that haunt without explanation. An eternal maze filled with unidentifiable figures, equally lost as the propulsive wanderer that marches forth.
The moment is coming, infinitely.

Mothlight 1963
Arrived to class today and we immediately started with experimental filmmaking. This isn’t entirely surprising considering Brakhage is a well known experimental filmmaker. Yet, I was ecstatic to see at least one of his works in an academic setting. By far the best way to view his work. And on top of that, we as a class made our own experimental shorts by coloring and scratching rolls of film. Wonderful!
This is said to be the most difficult film that… -
The Dante Quartet 1987
The beginning of my excursion into the abundance of short films saved on my watchlist for the month of February. 46 shorts, starting with Stan Brakhage’s The Dante Quartet.
An aggressively fleeting splurge of color. Thrashing, pausing, breathing. Brakhage decrepitates beauty, deforming what’s known. Inducing a birth-like visual. I’m far more interested in the making of The Dante Quartet than anything else. Must of been a meticulous process, though worth it once completed. Brakhage is an inspiration. -
Original Cast Album: Company 1970
As of right now, I am taking a class called Non-fiction Film: The Music Documentary. So I took it upon myself to revisit one of my favorite documentaries: Original Cast Album: Company.
Brimming with a scorching passion that is rarely ever captured with such honesty. My god, every time I watch I find my self entirely in awe. I could watch Elaine Stritch all day, only flaw is that Pennebaker doesn’t focus more on Stritch at the end. Feels as… -

Skinamarink 2022
Nostalgic terror in its most concentrated state.
Perpetually drifting into a foreign perdition that was never meant to plague any living being, at least not in this dimension. Though its presence relentlessly swallows all. Making Skinamarink one of the more unsettling experimental films I have ever seen. Turning a familiar setting, such as a home, into an intruder that caves in on itself. The hypnotizing static, muffled shouts, sudden bursts of sound, and visually unintelligible objects that appear and… -
Petite Maman 2021
90/100
Awwww. What a heartwarming and cozy film this was. Has such a dreamlike quality to it, and I was so relaxed honestly lmfao. It’s just a vibe.
Beautifully made, authentically acted, and such a masterpiece. The perfect runtime of an hour and 15 minutes. Watch this. Can’t wait to revisit.
