Honorable Mention in Best of 2022
(In a Seinfeld voice) What's the deal with multiverses? You mean there are trillions of universes out there, and I got stuck in the one where I willingly became an accountant AND the one where Netflix produced multiple editions in The Kissing Booth and Tall Girl series?
But at least I got stuck in the same universe where Everything Everywhere All at Once exists. While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the most popular multiverse movie this year, I seriously doubt it will be the most original.
This is epic storytelling done on a small-scale indie budget, with a ton of wonderful tricks and choices that make it wholly unique.
An absolute blast to watch, and a great opportunity for actors like Michelle Yeoh and Jonathan Ke Quan to play multiple fascinating roles. Quan should definitely be in a Wong Kar Wai movie based on a few scenes here!
Definitely the most fun I've had inside an IRS building.
