Episode 15 of the Cineflek podcast out now with my buddy Sam Thompson! (Apple Podcasts, Spotify)
I really don't know what I have to add to the Hereditary hype train but this movie really rocks.
Performances are all around amazing, and Ari Aster shows so much maturity here given it's his first film. It was my first rewatch in a while and I was really shocked by the pacing this time around. Major events take place in the first 30 minutes, then we linger with the family for so long as things SLOWLY get weirder. He knows exactly what you want to see next and holds you from it for as long as possible without ever boring the audience.
It is also more traumatic than I remembered. It's not often a horror movie can punch you in the gut in quite the same way. Despite the supernatural element, the characters, settings, and emotions feel extremely grounded in reality.
Sam and I had a great chat about this movie. I hope you enjoy the episode.
