Joel Church-Cooper’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is why marvel movies stick to a formula because sometimes when you take a chance and mix in some 2001 and religion the whole thing falls apart. The idea of killing god doesn’t resonate with the house style of whedonesque quips.
I paused it as act two was wrapping up and I was agog to find out there was 90 minutes left. This thing is paced like molasses. The flashback structure just robbed any narrative momentum. Some terrible lead performances.
I could not for the life of me figure out why Kumail bounced from the climatic battle. after dragging a dozen characters through this slog, now is when you decide to thin the herd. And only by one! Made no sense. Best guess is whatever he originally did during the climax was cut and what we got was the reshoot explanation of why he’s not there.
