    I rented this on DVD from the Alamo Drafthouse in March 2020, two days before it closed for almost 450 days. The DVD sat on my desk through the whole pandemic, partly because I think the pandemic utterly killed my desire to watch ANYTHING, and partly because I didn't want to *know* what the Secrets and Lies were. It collected a LOT of dust, but now it's 15 months later, I got an email declaring the video rentals at the Drafthouse open again, and I sat down to watch it before returning it the next day.

    It was worth waiting for ^u^

    The movie faded to black at the end, and the audience I saw it with began applauding rapturously, only to find the screen lighting up again with one final shot, sending them all quiet. That final shot completely changes everything about the ending that they'd been applauding, and the added effect of the applause being shut down so definitively by that fade in made it even more soul-crushing and poetic.
