Watching Episode I, because May 4th is coming, so might as well watch some Star Wars.
And yeah. I didn't liked it. I didn't felt anything when watching it. And even coming from someone who was never a huge Star Wars fan, and somehow, slept through Force Awakens, Last Jedi, and Solo, I didn't find much to enjoy (aside from the classic prequel memes). So to recap, the plot isn't that great, the acting is bad for the most part, cheesy dialogue, and annoying characters, especially good ol' Jar Jar Binks. He is not but a dumb comic relief who all he does, is provide cheap gags for the kiddiwinks to laugh it up. (Why does Georgie Lucas himself think that Jar Jar is the key to everything? Is he the key to all Star Wars? The key to all life?) And even when he's not being funny, he ultimately fucks up everything, such as the climax where he jumped into a Cache of Boomas, and causing the large Boomas to escape... and somehow destroying one of the Tanks and Droids. So his stupidity somehow saved the day? And as for the visual effects, while it might amazing for 1999 standards, now they just look flat, cheesy, and just doesn't hold up now. It feels that George Lucas relies too much on being cool with the VFX (Even going as far as to reedit the Original Trilogy and somehow making the VFX more dated than the practical effects at the time) instead of telling a good story. It's just an overhyped movie with cheap attempts at comedy, lacking in good story, annoying characters, cheesy acting/dialogue, and flat visual effects. I just didn't get anything from watching it. At least the Podracing scene and climax has something happening, but that's about it. I do get on why people enjoyed the prequels, and that's fine. But for me, this is a movie that just didn't worked for me.
I don't tend to make challenges, but since it's Star Wars, why not. So if I get 35 likes on this review, then I'll have to play Jar Jar's Journey: starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Jar_Jar%27s_Journey_Adventure_Book
And if you really want me to suffer, if I get 50 likes, then I change my pfp to Lego Jar Jar Binks.
Other than that, time to continue with the prequels.
