Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

Sundance 2021: Film #17

Surprise!! I was able to get tickets for Judas and the Black Messiah after all because I wanted to end my Sundance in style. Was this accomplished? Absolutely, I thought this was really good and definitely worth your time. Daniel Kaluuya was great as Fred Hampton, the slain leader of the Black Panther chapter in Illinois. The same applies to Lakeith Stanfield as William O’Neal, who betrays Hampton by becoming an FBI Informant and handing information to the cops, eventually leading to Hampton’s demise. I really loved the significance of the name because this does play out like the story of Judas Iscariot betraying Jesus Christ. This was a welcomed late addition to Sundance and I’m happy I got the chance to watch before it hits HBO Max next week

Overall, I had an awesome experience doing Sundance this year. They did a really good job handling this virtual festival. I was always interested in attending this and I’m happy I had the chance to do this virtually. Hopefully, sometime in the future I have the chance to attend in person @ Park City
