"Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."

Obviously, I loved this movie. It is no doubt one of the greatest movies ever made. I love the prequel-sequel structure. On a technical level, this is a masterpiece. Amazing performances by Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, John Cazale, and really everyone. This contains some of the best framing and blocking in a movie. Like the first one, the score, writing, and cinematography are great.

The story is definitely complicated. 200+ minutes of trying to remember every character of two different stories at two different time periods. That being said, the story is amazing. Michael has so many bad things going for him. His most trusted ally, his brother, betrays him. His wife tries to leave him and take their kids. Hyman Roth is trying to kill him. And his wife has a miscarriage. But it isn't a miscarriage, it's an abortion. And it was a boy. Michael is heartbroken. He has nobody. Even his father, who was also a murderous crime boss, was close with his family. There are so many powerful scenes in this movie, but the two that I thought were the most powerful were the one where Michael kisses Fredo and when Kay reveals to Michael that she had an abortion.

The only problem I had with this movie was pacing. It was 202 minutes and it feels like it. I love long movies and you need to make it long to show so much, but some scenes, especially with Vito, seemed unnecessary.

I'm now going to say it. I liked it more than The Godfather, just barely. I thought this one had a more engaging story. This movie will definitely be in my top 20 favorites and I absolutely loved it.
