The Northman (2022)
I had such high hopes for The Northman.
I genuinely just don’t have enough to say about this one to write a lengthy, insightful review and I think that speaks volumes. I was hoping for a shockingly brutal, fast paced and wild viking adventure story. Yes, there are elements of that- however a lot slower paced and reserved than I expected. I have seen a lot of reviews saying this movie is extremely brutal, some reviews even have trigger warnings- so maybe I am a little desensitised to what most would consider too graphic. But overall I did enjoy this to an extent, but I wouldn’t give it the praise I have seen others express.
Pros: incredible cast, amazing acting performances, visually stunning and beautiful scenery. The first 45 minutes is 10/10.
Cons: hits a wall around the hour mark and starts to drag. Storyline takes a bit of a hit and then the ending feels rather anticlimactic.
After a few hours of reflection, I give this a 3.2/5. Just because I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped, I can see how others would absolutely love it.
