Ceez’s review published on Letterboxd:
Holy shit what a powerful film. Daniel Kaluuya gives an incredible performance. Everything he does to channel Fred Hampton is so captivating and is a showcase to Daniel’s immense talent. LaKeith Stanfield is equally as fantastic in the much harder role of the film, essentially playing two different characters. He exudes fear, confidence, loath, and paranoia in this part perfectly. Hopefully Stanfeild doesn’t get overlooked in the awards race. He was excellent.
It’s a shame we have to learn about this story in movie form and not in the classrooms. Music is great and keep the film on a great pace. From start to finish Shaka Kings leaves the viewers on the edge of their seats in one of the best films of 2021.
Although I would’ve loved to see this in theaters, this film will reach a much wider audience because it’s so readily available to stream. MUST WATCH
