Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Halloween III: Season of the Witch ★★★

The older I get, the less I'm unnerved by films that play on clear, recognizable anxieties and the more I'm haunted by those films that offer aesthetic moments that could be construed as silly if taken out of context, in the same way that nightmares often seem ridiculous in the light of day, but in context are infused with unparsable dread.

This weird, goofy movie about robots and Stonehenge and Halloween masks gets under my skin in a way that none of the other films in this series do. It's all dream-logic oddness, absurd and alien and vicious.
