This ain't an art film, it's Hollywood product, but it's fine product and entertaining as hell. That's because the image is so fresh--powerful black women, accomplished warriors, distinct characters, all dominate this film from the first shot to the last. It's insane to think that this is a rare sight in cinema, so rare that it feels like a new genre sometimes instead of just another historical epic with a shaky grip on facts. That, plus a meandering plot that takes a long time to get anywhere of note, keep this from being a full home run, but I'll take it and movies like it for a while, thanks.
