June 2016 Movie Watching Challenge: June 28 - A coming of age film
I'm not sure what I did wrong, because to me Bicycle Thieves isn't the towering masterpiece most people consider it to be - but it's quite good. I appreciate the level of realism on which this is grounded, but it ends up being a bit unevenly paced, making some scenes not hit me as hard as they should (Bruno's episode at the bridge is a good example). The father and son give tremendously good performances for non-actors, but a lot of the supporting cast are not convincing. Can't deny how powerful that last shot is, though. Damn.
