This is without a doubt a masterfully crafted film in all aspects. The performances were phenomenal, the direction and cinematography were breathtaking, and the score and sound mixing were beautiful. PTA is so good at capturing the minds of his characters and translating them onto the screen. I always feel like I'm in the mind of the characters while watching his films. This is only my second PTA film, but I am already in love with his style. I wish I had connected with the characters more though. I feel like I was much more invested in the story during Punch Drunk Love, but I did not feel that here. I feel like part of it is because I don't care for Joaquin Phoenix because he looked and dressed exactly like my freshman year political science professor, but that's personal. He was really good but I couldn't shake it. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams were amazing as usual though.
