Life is a gift, we must celebrate it.
This film had me even before the opening credits were over. The casting is perfect and the writing is sublime.
Nearly every character has a slow build as they reveal more and more about themselves. There are so many things I love about this movie.
The mother son relationship is one of the best I’ve ever seen portrayed on film and Yorki is the best friend a 10 year old could ever have.
On this second viewing I also noticed that there’s a ton of foreshadowing that is so subtle. So many movies either make the foreshadowing so obvious you know what’s coming, or do it so poorly that you feel cheated. This movie walks that line perfectly. I also liked the distinct color shift moments before Jojo is distracted by the Butterfly.
Bonus Points to Sam Rockwell and his character who goes from being the funniest buffoon in the picture to being one of the most moving.
