Logan ★★★★½

Oh. So this is what it feels like.

I'm writing this as I'm sitting in my car outside of the theater, with tear stained cheeks. I didn't think saying goodbye was going to be this hard.

without even being aware of it, I grew up with wolverine. for all the most formative years of my life, the x-men movies have been around and hugh jackman as logan is the constant that bonds them. this was like saying goodbye to an old friend.

I can't think of a better way to send off an actor and character. a gruesome and depressing end, in the style that wolverine has always deserved. laura kinney is one of my absolute favorite comic book characters, and everything about her characterization in this was perfect. the entire film is worth it just for the ending scene.

this wasn't so much about creating a superhero movie as it was creating an homage. it's raw, cut loose from the confines of a genre.

thank you for everything, hugh jackman

(this film fits beautifully into the mad max universe I live in inside my head, too)
