    Not everyone is a fan of play-to-movie but I am definitely a fan when done well, as I was with Fences. It'd be great to see more of August Wilson's Pittsburgh Cycle made into film.

    Viola Davis and Chadwick (RIP) are f***ing jaw-dropping.

    Sweat, tears,and literal blood have gone into black art only for it to be exploited and misappropriated by white people and it's tackled thematically in Ma Rainey in a way that, knowing the play was written in the 80s, broke ground.

    Jesse is back to being an ass again.

    But this is real love, not a fairy tale. Altogether I love how Linklater takes the trilogy from a sweeping romance completely back down to earth. Authentic and raw.

    Knowing this is sandwiched in a trilogy which I have yet to finish, this film feels like a musical interlude. It's almost even beginning to function like a sonata (ABA). Having not yet seen Before Midnight, Before Sunset is reminiscent of a B section, and I expect a return to many of the original elements depicted in Before Sunrise for the final film, and a grander recapitulation.
