    I can’t truly justify it, but on first viewing this is easily a top 5 movie for me all time. I had known about it for a while, and knew that it was supposedly good, but had avoided it. I generally really like Johnny Depp, and was afraid that his Scottish accent may be horrible and unforgivable. Thankfully, it is neither of these things.

    As great as Sam Raimi is, he couldn’t quite save this from absolutely terrible writing. When one of your lead characters re-treads the arc she had in a TV show again on a larger scale, you have issues. It’s also very clear that Disney sliced and diced the contents of this movie and forced reshoots. I’m going to forever be pretty annoyed that Sam risked coming back to comic book movies after what Sony did to him with Spider-Man 3/the production of Spider-Man 4, only for Disney to stifle him too.
