Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang ★★★½

Unlike Full Moon High, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is overabundant with the gay jokes, and they're mostly bad as you'd imagine from 2000s humor, even if one or two make it into the plot in a good or interesting way. Thankfully outside the beginning there are just a few gay jokes. On the other hand, there's a really nice message that sexual harassment is not okay and not "just life." Definitely didn't expect that one!

Val Kilmer plays a private detective named Gay Perry, because he's gay. As for the non-gay characters, we have Robert Downey Jr. as Harry, a thief who mistakenly gets into acting. Gay Perry teaches Harry how to be a detective to improve his acting skills for an upcoming role. Then we have Michelle Monaghan as Emma Stone as a love interest/old friend of Robert's. The story is a comedic look on the 40s noir but set in modern-day L.A. Harry and Gay Perry get involved in a hilarious, complex mystery of deaths.

I have to say, despite the few flaws, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was nonstop entertainment in comedy, thrills, and mystery. Shane Black showed he could direct in his first role as director. The crazier the noirs are, the more I like them! All the leads are great, fleshing out their characters' respective personalities. The time flew by so fast that it almost felt too short, but the runtime is perfect. Not too short and not too long.
