Fantastic Mr. Fox is more than fantastic. It's magical. It's my favorite Wes Anderson film and my favorite non-Ghibli animated film. What I appreciated the most this time around was the humor; every unexpected line of dialogue, quirky facial expression, perfectly timed edit, and bizarrely framed shot contribute to an outrageous sense of humor that is purely its own, even unique from other Wes Anderson films. After the extraordinary Isle of Dogs, I honestly would not be upset if from now on, Wes Anderson mostly just made stop-motion movies. It's really the perfect marriage of director and medium.
