"Hey you bastards, I'm still here."
Papillon is one of the best escape films of all time. It combines so many classic elements in a single film: a glaring expose of the cruelty inflicted on inmates of the now-defunct penal system in French Guyana, performances by a fantastic cast, led by Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, and amazing locations/cinematography. Overall, the grit, courage and determination demonstrated by "Papillon" through many years of incarceration and torment, in the worst conceivable conditions, is a real testament to the triumph of the human spirit and one which never fails to give me a lift when I watch the film.
